Strategy

Transurban manages and develops urban toll road networks in Australia and the United States of America. We have been in business since 1996 and are a top 20 company on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

Our vision is to strengthen communities through transport.

At Transurban, we seek to make a difference in communities by providing safer, smarter and faster ways for people to go about their daily lives.

At the heart of our business strategy is our desire to be a 'partner of choice' for our government clients, providing effective and innovative urban road infrastructure and meeting the needs of our customers, investors and the communities in which we operate.

Transurban is committed to providing effective transportation solutions to support the growth and liveability of our cities. We do this through efficiently managing our existing road networks, active involvement in the transport policy debate, and applying our skills to infrastructure challenges in our markets.

Our core strengths include:

  • Network planning and forecasting
  • Operations
  • Customer management
  • Project development and delivery
  • Application of technology
  • Community engagement

Transurban operates its road assets under concession deed agreements with government partners. These concessions allow us to manage and toll our roads in exchange for investment in the construction, operation and maintenance of these assets. At the end of our concession deed periods, our roads are returned to government management.

In FY16, our assets and pipeline of projects continued to provide valuable opportunities for us to deliver on our vision. At the same time, we are monitoring emerging trends in infrastructure policy, customer service, roadside operations and technology to ensure we adapt to changing markets in the future.

To ensure we are well prepared for the future, we are also focused on the wellbeing, capabilities and resources of our employees and business partners to successfully pursue the opportunities in the short, medium and long term.

Our assets and markets

Transurban began with the development of Melbourne's CityLink in 1996, and has since grown into a major operator of road networks on the eastern seaboard of Australia and Greater Washington Area in the USA.

Our business has grown through the development of new infrastructure to support our expanding cities, and by the acquisition of high-quality assets that improve our interconnected urban road networks.

Transurban’s head office is located in Melbourne, and we have an interest in 16 roads (including roads under construction) in our markets.
